TAKE AWAYS FROM TRAVEL

When you suddenly don’t travel as much as you did, you realise what you love about it. That said, I’m happy with the reason why I can count on just two hands how many flights I have taken in the last 6 months and the fact that we can’t really book any more until the little man has his passport!

So what are my travel take-aways… The things I value most from travel?

Discovering new things

Whether that’s a stunning view, an historic site or a gem of a hotel. Even new food or discovering excellent wine! Going away forces us to adventure and explore rather than sticking to our daily and comfortable routine.

Experiencing different cultures

I am as guilty as the next person of arranging tours and dinners through a hotel rather than going properly local. But the local experiences are always better, money can’t buy them. I relish my work travel for the best experience of a new culture, as well as being able to work with my colleagues overseas.

The buzz

There’s no denying there’s a buzz to travel. The planning and packing. Obviously the first glass of holiday fizz. And the fact that no alarm clock is needed (I am aware that applies to pre-baby travel only). An adventure each day and even when we are home with holiday blues, all the photo memories to look at!

Treasured photos

We try and enjoy the view first, but even so we take thousands of photos of where we go. I love looking through these on a winters night with Mr P and reminiscing. And who doesn’t love a new perfect photo of them and their love relaxed and happy!

Me or us time

Work is busy, life is busy, so travel with Mr P is our time for us. To relax, reconnect and refresh. Holidays and travel will be a little different from now on – but as important with a rugrat in tow is the benefits of time together as a family and new experiences, adventures and memories for and with Baby P.

Hotel room toiletries

Baby P curtailed work travel this spring-summer and we are getting dangerously low on soap, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel… Mr P and I spend so much time travelling with business and we always bring home the little toiletries (so as not to waste the plastic bottles after 1 use) to use. As his paternity leave comes to an end it’s almost a relief as we can top up supplies as he heads here there and everywhere again!!

Staying local is just as good

When suddenly you can’t fly long haul, or to anywhere with zika, or in fact are just happier without the hassle of flying… Well that’s when adventures near home come to the fore. And let me tell you, in the right place they are just as splendid. And the best take away: they are still perfect when we are time poor. A trip to the beach or to see the bluebells. A stroll out from home or a weekend in Cornwall. Simple and relaxing.

Hotel room toiletries had me laughing…but so true. I’m not sure what I love about travelling so much, I think for me it’s more the fear that I wont see something that makes me book it and also when I see amazing photos on blogs like this I think…’oooh’ and then the seed is planted haha.

The save function on Instagram as well as Pinterest also plants far too many seeds….

I think now we have the baby we will start buying something at each place visited… perhaps not a Christmas decoration as that’s my hobby!!

What a sweet post, and reminded me of some of my favorite parts of travel too 🙂 I also like to ferret away the little hotel toiletries to use for months to come (they are always turning up in cupboards in my bathroom, just when I thought I’ve cleaned them out everywhere). I’m looking forward to your travel posts over this next year with baby P in tow!

Lovely post and agree with all your takeaways! I too don’t get to travel as much now, but you’re right, it gives us the chance to reflect on what we love about travel!

I am sending in the passport form tomorrow, too much reflecting and I need to book an adventure!!

Travel is when Mr. A and I get to reconnect as well and take a breather from our otherwise super hectic lives that mean we sleepwalk through most days thanks to the corporate grind! And alarm clocks? What are those when travelling except when you have a flight at silly o’clock that you would be awake for anyway thanks to excitement?! #travellinkup

Those pesky 6am flights that need a 2am flight… Somehow it’s still relaxing when it’s a holiday alarm!!

Passport is applied for… He’s registered with BA. He’ll be a little traveller soon enough!!

When you travel regularly, it starts to become more then something you do and instead becomes part of who you are and your soul. But there isn’t any better reason to delay future travel then a little one. But the good news is you know how much travel means to you and rather then giving it up, you’ll eventually have an opportunity to share your love of travel with the little guy! Good luck and keep up the great posts!

Thanks Megan!! Totally the best reason to delay travel and dodge work trips… But his passport arrived yesterday so we can get booking flights again!
