Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 22 – Honeymoon in Cape Town

After a peaceful week relaxing and enjoying wine in Stellenbosch we joined our friends!  Many would think it strange to share a honeymoon with others, but it was a great part of our trip! And there is no better way of seeing the best a city has to offer than with locals!

Two friends were married the weekend after us, at a Country Club near Elgin.  Other friends from home also flew out to South Africa for the wedding and we all spent a few days together.  The venue for the wedding was stunning.  The day before the conditions were monsoonal (we wine-tasted) but thankfully the wedding day was met with wall to wall sunshine and warmth!

We toured winery’s on one day which is great to do with friends!  We potentially weren’t the most civilised customers as we were all a little bit giddy with being either on a honeymoon or a holiday, but our local guides took us to some lovely spots near to Kirstenbosch gardens (which were a stunning place to lie in the sunshine and doze off the wine).  The weather on these few days continued to be scorching (very lucky as this was April) so we had a marvellous time on the Table View beach as well.

On our final morning together we were up at 4am and were met with fog.  No one thought that climbing the Lion’s Head (the pointy hill next to Table Mountain) would be worthwhile but when we arrived we were in for a treat.  We were up above the fog and so the views across the city were just incredible.

A great way to spend a few days, we really enjoyed our time with friends and visiting places we wouldn’t otherwise have thought of!  Live like a local – yes indeed!

More next week – after our climb we headed off on a flight along the coast to Durban where we were heading in land for a little while…

The long flight is worth it totally, even if just for the wine and the views!!

There’s a whole sequence of these with the 6 of us jumping for the camera timer, a passer by would have thought we were mad!!

As you say, what a fantastic venue for a wedding… and not a bad spot to pick for your honeymoon either! 🙂 Must have been great seeing the sunrise from Lion’s Head.

There should have been water in the lake, but I think it is far more stunning in a drought!! Absolutely, to have such random weather for that walk was honeymooners luck!
