Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 1 – girlfriend tests in Cumbria

I thought I might try something new on here!  When I’m bored I love looking through old photos and remembering a day out or a holiday trip!  So here goes – my new weekly (as work permits) addition to #FlashbackFriday!

Striding Edge, Cumbria

Striding Edge, Cumbria

Anyone that knows me would agree that I’m not the bravest… hence why this is known as the ‘girlfriend test’ weekend!  Not only was I taken along Striding Edge but I also met my future in laws (and I remember that I had forgotten my hairbrush – so you can only imagine how dog-eared I looked)!!  Still I passed the tests and I still love going up to Cumbria!

This was Easter 2005 and it was our first get away together!  Mr P had some fancy work-car and so we thought we’d better stretch its legs!  I think we left the south coast at 4am and were in the Lakes before brunch!  It was a lovely long weekend, with a spot of sailing and some lower level walks too!  Even Striding Edge was worthwhile – I think it would be fair to say it too me longer due to crawling (with another girl who had been left behind by her other half) – and I still remember just how good the fish, chips and mushy peas were that we had that evening!  Well deserved!

Great fog. Watch your step. 🙂 Delighted to hear you passed the test. 🙂

Always safer to crawl on things like this, despite how feeble that may look! Haha – passed with flying colours thankfully!

Always good to have a hat for those bad hair days, love flashback events, need to also dig up some oldies

I always have more than one hat – a dry hat every day means a warm head (and can cover the hair as you say!).
Look forward to following along with your flashbacks – it is fun!

Definitely a little close to the edge, that looks like a big drop! Glad you were rewarded with mushy peas{i think} but the fish and chips sound great.

Massive drop – its called Striding Edge – am glad we weren’t there on a windy day! Actually – the fog may have helped, I couldn’t see the drop…

Glad to see you’re still smiling despite your fears and I’m also glad to hear that you didn’t have to crawl alone! Not the most dignified of things to do but sometimes necessary. (I had to crawl up a steep slope of shifting pebbles to get out of the sea just a couple of days ago.)

Lower the centre of gravity – putting my a level knowledge to use… Also crawled down a screw on snowdon!! Glad I’m not the only one!!

You were in my neck of the woods! (but I was in Scotland the last couple of weeks… enjoying the sunshine! 🙂 )

Visibility doesn’t look so great there, and Striding Edge can be quite dangerous, particularly when conditions are bad, but it looks like you were prepared for all eventualities. 🙂

This was years ago now, but I’ll take that as a compliment despite the terrible photo! I think Mr P had the kitchen sink in his rucksac! His scount leader was Ray Mears, so he’s always well prepared!
