Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 9 – Minorca Sailing

Not all holidays have to be relaxing, although we did have plenty of time to relax when we weren’t sailing!

Minorca Sailing is one of the better equipped beach sailing companies and they also are very good at race training and racing for experienced sailors!  We had a week down there honing our skills in the type of dinghy we normally sailed, and Mr P also spent a fair bit of time playing in some more exciting boats as well whilst I read a book by the pool!

We stayed in the company’s hotel – very simple but with a lovely balcony (mainly to dry and air sailing kit on!).  It was a very friendly week – normally we go away to avoid other people, but on a holiday such as this we made some new friends and enjoyed rowdy suppers with the other sailors and our coaches!  On one night there was also a coach laid on to see some more of the island and we headed off into town.  So whilst we didn’t see much of the island, apart from what we could see from the sea, we did see a little bit!

Minorca Sailing – September 2007

When we sail our own boats, we have to rig the boat and then put it away after sailing, and if you break the boat – well then you have to phone the insurance company and arrange for a repair, which might keep you off the water for a while too.  Not here!  The boats are rigged and ready to go in the morning, and when we managed to make a whole in the boat one day (start line shenanigans) then by the time we had sailed back to shore, a replacement was ready!  Definitely a shock to the system coming home and having to actually help Mr P set up and pack away!

It must make a big difference having everything set up for you so you are ready to ‘go’. I think that’s one of the things that puts me off sailing a little – the time consuming nature of launching the boat, rigging it up properly (which I probably wouldn’t be very good at), and then all the aftercare, etc. If I was more DIY-minded, perhaps I’d be more open to the idea… 🙂

massive difference – we went sailing last week and had to rig and de-rig, definitely adds an hour to the day when tea-drinking time is added in…

I’d love to try sailing one day – must be a lovely feeling being out on the water like that 🙂

Sailing is great release from stress and you get to see amazing places and meet great people! Hope you get out on the water soon

Very luxurious to have someone set up the boat for you. We have a motor boat and so much of the day is spent schlepping. I love it once we get out there, but indeed it would be nicer to have it all arranged Anna!

Haha – I’m not the only one that hates the pre and post boating faffing!!
