Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 6 – Antigua

We have this photo on a canvas print over our bed – I loved the view from our room and I still love looking at it!  This was my first time in the Caribbean and it was a wonderful trip.  Mr P was enjoying the perks of working in the travel industry and so we travelled comfortably and got some great deals on accommodation.  Just look at the colour of the water – stunning!  And the bougainvillaea – wow, they set off the azure just fantastically – if only all sea views were this colourful!

Happily we found this place, Dian Bay, which is well off the beaten track up near Devil’s Bridge.  3* in terms of what it had and was, but 5* in terms of location and service.  Incredible value for money.  Sadly I think it has now closed.  When we were there another resort was being built across the bay (The Verandah) and I can only assume they bought out the owners to ensure privacy?

Best bits of staying here was the food and drink.  The fish was awesome, and I’m not a fish eater.  We dined well.  My only experience of all inclusive was on this trip, here and in Barbados.  And the Barbados spot whilst it had more stars in its rating was put to shame by Dian Bay!  The raspberry daiquiris were also particularly good, and the bar staff were the first people we met that were local to the island and they were charming!

We had a great time exploring the island, dropping by on friends in English and Falmouth Harbour and heading up to see the view at Shirley Heights.  I am pretty sure more goats live on the island than people – we saw so many!
