Flashback Friday 28 – Wedding Day Travel

As luck would have it, our 5th wedding anniversary is today and today is Friday – which means it’s a flashback day… So our wedding finally features!

Have boat, will travel! Even on our wedding day!

Have boat, will travel! Even on our wedding day!

Now we didn’t ‘travel’ per se on our wedding day as we were busy getting married and having a downright marvellous time with friends and family… but actually we did travel just a little way. A car was too simple, Mr P had a different idea!..

We were married at the top of the River Hamble and had our reception at the Royal Southern Yacht Club at the bottom of the river.  Cars were considered (the good people from Land Rover lent us some to get there) but getting back in a car wasn’t what we wanted!  Mr P arranged to borrow a yacht from friends at Lymington Yacht Charters (the go to charter company in the Solent) for us to travel using our preferred mode of transport down the river!

The day before the wedding whilst my bridesmaids and I toiled over table layouts and such like, Mr P and his boys enjoyed a lovely sail round from Lymington to Hamble… the boat was his base for the weekend!  It was also ours on our wedding night – and given we’d lent all our bedding to friends staying at our house, the bedding had to be borrowed from the yacht club!  Event pre-planning at its best! In fact the boat/car combination only came together the week before the wedding!

I love the picture below, it was such fun to be on the water, enjoying fizz!  It is only a shame the picture was taken on an iPhone and isn’t great quality, but it is still one of my favourites!  I am sure not many brides drink fizz from a pint glass on their wedding day wearing a Henri Lloyd waterproof jacket – but I clearly did! And enjoyed it!

Puttering down the river drinking champagne out of pint glasses!

As you can see in the picture right at the top of this post, Mr P and I didn’t have to be involved in mooring up, the ushers took care of that thank goodness! We were so lucky it didn’t rain at t his point in the day.  It was chilly, but at least no rain!

Very pleased I had a white Henri Lloyd jacket!

We arrived on the dock and it was time for our reception!  The Southern had worked us out – glasses of fizz were brought down to us on the jetty! C’est parfait!

Ah – a little windswept but back ashore at the Royal Southern Yacht Club

The next morning it was gorgeously sunny and windy and we recruited a top squad of weary friends to sail lovely S/Y Shabeene back to Lymington.  A gorgeous day indeed.  All in all a very chilled and enjoyable few days!

The next day – taking her home to Lymington!

Put the Captain at the wheel, we're safest that way...

As for why we took the presents with us on the boat to Lymington, then drove them back to Southampton – well I’m not entirely sure, but thankfully nothing was lost or broken, and it does make an amusing photo!

Even the presents did some travelling…

What fun!  Such a memorable and amusing few days! Crazy to think it is already 5 years ago!

Happy days indeed!

I had my Dubarry sailing boots with me too, but thankfully the weather played ball! Thank you!
