I’d like an Easter staycation please

Planning an Easter Staycation

Easter is sneaking up out of nowhere and we have NO plans!  This is incredible – not only does that never happen but it is oh so very exciting to have no plans.  March has been crazy busy (more soon) and after Easter I have a big deadline (may impact on one day of the long-weekend) then a business trip to Miami followed by some track and sky treats to look forward to at the end of the slog.

Planning an Easter Staycation

I did think about a mini-break to Barcelona as I want to visit the home of Codorniu Cava – it is actually the birth place of cava and the name of the lady that started it?  Anna – of course!

I also toyed with zipping down to Cornwall to enjoy the fields of daffodils and some fantastic food and fizz – we had a look at some glamping options but I think we’ll save them for when the weather is more guaranteed…

I had a momentary idea of Mr P and I going sailing for the weekend...  The boat would have heating of course, but it will be so much more agreeable if we do this once spring actually feels like it has arrived!

But despite all these ideas the long-weekend is actually going to be one of R&R at home – a real ‘staycation’ as we’ll stay at home and make the most of that – no morning alarms, the tea and papers in bed and a bit of pottering here and there to hopefully make the most of some nice spring days…  There are also lots of new restaurants popping up near where we live so I suspect we will find ourselves in some of these too!

I want to go bluebell hunting (also looking for snowdrops and daffodils) – thankfully the National Trust have a page of top local tips of some of their loveliest gardens.  Hopefully there will be a pleasant day when we can have a good mooch looking for bluebells as well as other spring blooms and get some sunshine on our skin too!  Hinton Ampner, Mottisfont or Kingston Lacy all have gorgeous gardens – I suspect it will be Mottisfont for us as I haven’t been there before.

I also really really want to go to Winchester and see the Gormley statue in the crypt at the cathedral – I keep seeing the advert for it when the train goes through the station on my way to London!  Also a great town for a spot of lunch and we can get the train home!  To see the statue at its best we need it to rain this week… It’s not often I wish for that!  I remember when these statues were dotted around London, some were on the edges of rooftops!  There’s still one just outside work!

What I really need to do now though is pop to the shops and stock up on dairy free hot cross buns and Easter eggs, mmmm….

I would say all of the above would be lovely but nothing beats a nice weekend in as well. I like the sound of this place where cava was born!

I haven’t been at home for Easter for four years until last year. It was fine to relax and gorge on Easter cakes but I’m at home this year too and I feel a bit meh because of that. But I’m off to Stockholm in April and then London in May so I think I’ll survive:)

Oh lucky lady – Stockholm in the spring, I need to latch on to one of my husband’s work trips there soon!

Lol! The world is your oyster! I’ve never been to Barcelona, I’d love to see what you’d get up to there.

I’ve got a free Easter planned too, and after lots of weekend trips over the spring I’m definitely looking forward to a quiet one – have this huge Cotswold wishlist of places I’d like to see so fingers crossed for some sunny days to go exploring (though I won’t be too upset to stay in with a box set and a duvet if it rains!).

If Netflix would just upload Suits season 4 then I would love to spend the day with it! Enjoy a mooch round the Cotswolds – early starts to avoid the crowds?
