April travels with Penelope and Parker

April is only 30 days long granted, but I didn’t realise a month could pass so blooming quickly – where did it go?… Well – I suspect if I did some quick maths it would know that I spent more time either in the air, an airport lounge or a hotel than I had at home!  Hectic is an understatement!  Here’s a taster!

April is a month that is special for us and this year was no different – our fifth wedding anniversary!  Another case of time flying since our wedding day!  We always like to do something on our anniversary and this year was no different (Mr P had to miss our 2nd anniversary due to work so we’ve been extra organised at planning since then!).  We headed down to Cornwall to do some more exploring!  It is a perfect time to visit as even though it was Easter it is still relatively quiet and given its location gets the best of the weather too.  We had a marvellous few days walking the coastal paths, visiting stunning tin mines and enjoying the spring blooms.  We also treated ourselves to foodie heaven for our anniversary and enjoyed garden sundowners too!  This was our #Take12Trips entry for the month and our first taste of warmth and sunshine this year!

At times in April it really felt like summer had arrived – Cornwall was positively balmy at Easter and we had some magnificent weekend weather to enjoy in Hampshire too.  But come the end of the month and I was in Manchester and I kid you not, it was sleeting…

As overseas business travel goes, April was the most varied travel month I have had to date – taking in Paris, India, Switzerland and Jersey.  Hectic and successful – and happily everything went smoothly.  I absolutely loved the Boeing 787 – a real treat in fact.   And then India surprised me – I hadn’t expected to be so taken by everything about it… The bucket list is getting longer by the month!

April was a little hectic for biz-travel - but it has its perks too!

There were two extra treats in store in April too – goodness knows how I got so lucky to actually be in London at the right time!  Firstly an evening with SPG at The O2 to hang out with Around the World in 80 Pairs of Shoes, the SPG crew and see Sting and Paul Simon perform (awesome) and a night at the Aloft hotel which I have been a big fan of for a while now.  It is rare that I stray out in London if I am there with work, so this was a real treat!

And then the treats continued… As I was flying to India on a Saturday and losing a weekend to travel, work and jet lag, Mr P and I arranged to finish work early on the Friday prior and headed to the Hermes Wanderland exhibition at the Saatchi gallery.  Fantastic – if only all gallery exhibitions were so interesting and fascinating! (Sadly no shop…)

As if I hadn’t done enough already, the happy news that a much loved sailing yacht is back racing meant that we had a lovely shake down sail one weekend to look at the old sails, discuss what new ones we need and check everything was working!  Desperado is about as old as me (perhaps a bit older) and is a stunning Nautor Swan 65ft sailing yacht. We have a busy season planned and it is great to be back – thankfully it all came back just like riding a bike!

A busy month – very glad for a bank holiday weekend at the start of May to recharge the batteries and spend some time with Mr P!  Plenty to come later in the year – Boston, Maine, Vienna and Greece are all in the diary for now!
