Places to visit again

Travel – it’s all about seeing somewhere new? Right or wrong? Well, I guess in some ways it is – it is fantastic to discover a new place and fall in love with it, and it is motivational to have a bucket list full of more amazing places still to visit.  But there is also something rather reassuring in returning to somewhere you know and enjoy and exploring it further, but with some local knowledge. My love affairs with Cornwall…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 25 – Honeymoon in St Lucia

The final leg of our South African tour took us over to the east coast of the country, up near to the Mozambique border – to a small town call St Lucia.  We had toyed with going on to the Maldives, but it felt like a bit of a cliché, so instead we chose St Lucia as it would give us some opportunity for beach and warm water before flying home from Jo’berg later on.  St Lucia is known for…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 24 – Honeymoon Safari!

Our next honeymoon stop was a spot of safari!  We had a few days at Isibindi Eco Reserve.  Strangely some might think, I didn’t opt for big 5 safari, instead picking a small reserve where it was going to be more about the experience than what we saw.  It was also en route between our treehouse and our next stop!  As for seeing big 5, well we didn’t but I think we saw something far better (or worse!) Isibindi is…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 23 – Honeymoon in Lesotho

Having already enjoyed Stellenbosch and Cape Town, the next stop on our mini-tour of South Africa was to the Drakensberg. I found us somewhere to stay that was so unique that I couldn’t believe it was as good as it was! I’ve already written a review for A Southern Gypsy which I won’t repeat here. The picture sells it! We had our own field (shared with some deer) and an unbroken view across to the Drakensberg Mountains.  The tree house is…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 22 – Honeymoon in Cape Town

After a peaceful week relaxing and enjoying wine in Stellenbosch we joined our friends!  Many would think it strange to share a honeymoon with others, but it was a great part of our trip! And there is no better way of seeing the best a city has to offer than with locals! Two friends were married the weekend after us, at a Country Club near Elgin.  Other friends from home also flew out to South Africa for the wedding and…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 21 – Honeymoon in Stellenbosch

As private garden spaces go, this verdant spot at a Boutique winery in Cape Town is pretty damn perfect!  This was the garden outside our cottage at Camberley Wines. As you can see the cottage comes with a lovely labrador (the owner’s, but he seemed to like the sunny terrace and the view as much as we did)!  I don’t like dogs much, but this docile fellow was more than welcome to sit and keep us company, he didn’t want…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories – 3 – South Africa

This picture always makes me sigh happily!  What bliss!  We drove straight to this spot from the airport, got changed into summer clothes by the side of the road and headed straight for a paddle – with a view of Table Mountain and a view across to Robben Island the view really is quite jaw-dropping!  And the water is freezing! This was our first trip to South Africa, we went together a 2nd time for our honeymoon (checkout the back…
