My top 10 travel highlights of 2016

What a year 2016 has been globally.  My top 10 highlights may well sound frivolous and privileged in a year when the world has been full of sadness, unrest and nasty surprises.  But they made us smile, laugh and relax after some challenging years. Its been good for the soul.  I’m amazed we fitted in 6 overseas trips in a year when work has been rewarding, but non-stop. Best drive Mr P wants to upgrade the car.  But our convertible is much-loved and pays…

Yachting adventures in the Canaries

Mr P did some vital yachting holiday research for us in October… Too kind!  I was manic with work and made a passing comment suggesting he go away with his best buddy somewhere nice and leave me in peace.  I didn’t ever expect the offer to be taken up.  But it’s OK as it was all in the name of research, for when next year they will take us girls with them too!  So his arm was twisted into writing this guest post…

Sailing my greatest adventure

Adventure lasts a lifetime? I certainly hope so. My greatest adventure has many more years to go and many new places to visit and friends to make – it’s sailing! Life is full of many little fantastic adventures, but there is a theme in mine – the best are always near to the sea! “Ocean air, salty hair” – sailing my greatest adventure Click To Tweet Here’s why it is such an adventure for me: It taught me to cry I…

Truth in quotes & pictures – the sea

Anyone that has dipped into my corner of the world wide web can’t have failed to have noticed I am slightly obsessed by the sea, it’s my happy place!  It appears I am not the only one to think this way, there is a plethora of quotes and sayings about the sea, and let’s be honest – its so beautiful that it was built for taking photos of!  My Pinterest feed keeps giving me more inspiration – probably something to…

Flashback Friday 41: Solent Sailing

This is the final flashback friday –  Penelope and Parker after 2 years (well actually it is 2 years and 5 days since I registered on WordPress, a little longer since I started on A Luxury Travel Blog) is now a complete record of my adventures – either as a flashback or as another post!  We bow out on the series with a fantastic weekend of sailing with friends on the Solent. Sailing does feature quite heavily in the Parker calendar…

Travel Linkup – favourite things

The Sound of Music is my all-time favourite film, still – as I reach my mid-thirties!!  Imagine my delight when  Kelly, Emma and Rebecca and their lovely co-host Frankie, The Mischievous Mayfairy, announced this month’s travel link-up was about our favourite things.  Instantly I was humming the tune, followed swiftly by ‘Edelweiss’ which is my favourite.  I wondered as I started writing, how like Maria I am – do we share ‘favourite’ things?  Not so much…  “Raindrops on roses…” – I love splashing in puddles after the…

October with Penelope and Parker

And so we say hello to November… I’m really not sure how that happened – Christmas doesn’t feel that long ago!  October was another month spent at home – I have enjoyed being based in the UK with work and spending weekends relaxing with Mr P, seeing friends and enjoying a spot of Sunday sailing.  The month has flown by, as always, thankfully with plenty of sunshine too.  Here’s the best bits: Penelope and Parker in October made with @flipagram…

Sailing fun and frolics – Cowes Week and the Rolex Fastnet Race

This summer I have seized a different opportunity to travel and reminded myself always to find time for the things that make me happy. I hadn’t expected to have had the chance to get back on the water this summer – it really has been a case of every cloud having a silver lining. Sailing is in my blood, but recently I haven’t done enough – last year a regatta in Sardinia was a perfectly timed week of jollity with…
