My top 10 travel highlights of 2016

What a year 2016 has been globally.  My top 10 highlights may well sound frivolous and privileged in a year when the world has been full of sadness, unrest and nasty surprises.  But they made us smile, laugh and relax after some challenging years. Its been good for the soul.  I’m amazed we fitted in 6 overseas trips in a year when work has been rewarding, but non-stop. Best drive Mr P wants to upgrade the car.  But our convertible is much-loved and pays…

Weekend in Milan and Como

When I was travelling too much with work, Mr P always used to ask when he could join me for the weekend.  I always deferred as I wanted to get home from a trip as soon as I could.  Then he started travelling an incredible amount with work and so started asking me when  I would join him for the weekend…  Well will you twist my rubber arm!  A trip away where we need only pay for one flight, a lot…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories 13 – Garda take 2

Oh the trouble I got in for taking this action shot…  This is us in third spot, hot on the heels of 1st and 2nd place – we were flying in this race, everything was going well!  To capture the moment I whipped out my waterproof camera that I had stuffed into a pocket in my buoyancy aid and took a photo to record our mid-race success! Fortunately we hung on to our 3rd place and Mr P and I…

Sailing in Sardinia

As places to spend a week sailing, laughing with friends and generally relaxing and having a jolly good time go – well, it doesn’t really get much better!  Mr P and I have both spent many years sailing on big boats and so we were thrilled to be invited to sail on Bella Nove at the Rolex Swan Cup in Sardinia. Bella Nove is a very elegant 48 foot Swan yacht.  Nautor Swan are famous for making beautiful and comfortable…

Flashback Friday Travel Photo Memories – 4 – Lake Garda

Lake Garda is something of a Mecca for sailors – every class wants a regatta here to see what it is all about.  We’ve now been twice – probably enough sailing in my book, but I’d love to go back for a holiday (in fact there is an SLH property in a stunning location that I have my eye on…)!! Here is a photo of Mr P bimbling the boat – the other girl in his life!  It was always…

The (Prosecco) merchant(s) of Venice

Venice was stunning, I hadn’t expected to enjoy our trip there quite so much, but wow!  My favourite discovery has to be that it is in the Prosecco region of Italy – something I didn’t know before, but something that we grasped with both hands during the visit (hence the name of this blog!). This trip was 4 days, at the beginning of April and was my husband’s birthday present!  Definitely a good way to celebrate a birthday in a…

When in Rome with Hilton…

In the past month I’ve had the need to stay in 3 of the 4 Hilton hotels in Rome!  I could have been braver and used another hotel group, but there is something to be said for brand loyalty to keep up a tier rating!!  It isn’t usual to stay in so many hotels of the same chain in one place, so it has actually given me some useful insight into the pro’s and con’s of the wider brand!! So… a tale of 3…
